While the width of human hair reflects how wide each strand of your hair is, hair density refers to how close are these stresses on your head. Knowing well the density of your hair is exceptionally significant, as it would help a lot in finding a suitable hairpiece to wear.
First, what is hair density?
The very first thing to jump into is to determine the correct definition of hair density. This term indeed refects the overall thickness of your hair. In other words, this figure refers to how close the hair strands are packed together on one’s head.
The hair density test would be carried out by counting the number of hair strands on an area of 1 square inch (or approximately 2.5 cm²). Statistics show that each person would have averagely 2,200 strands of hair per 1*1 inch area.
Normally, the density of a hair topper or toupee would be divided into 03 main levels: low, medium, and high (similar to light, medium, and heavy, respectively). It has no relation to the thickness of each strand, so don’t mistake it!
Levels of hair density
No head is similar to another, and neither is hair density.
There are several levels to mention, from the extra light, when your scalp is visible and easy to see, to extra heavy, when the hair is exceptionally thick.
To help you measure the hair density easier, Hairsystem would like to divide it into 07 levels: 03 major levels (light, medium-light, medium) and 04 other less-seen ones (extra light, medium-heavy, extra-heavy).
Extra light
This low density natural hair is the thinnest among the list. The hair looks exceptionally thin, and the scalp skin becomes visible. We often see this situation in aged people.
Especially, when they get older, their hair tends to shed more, leading to frontal hair loss. And that’s when the elderly start to search for a way to increase density in their front head.

Light (130%)
This level refers to thin hair also, but it looks much better than extra-light. However, it is still easy to reveal the scalp when you part or style your hair.
Medium-light (150%)
This is one of the 03 most popular density that people often seek when choosing a hair system. It looks very natural, thus making your hairpieces undetectable.
Medium (180%)
Together with medium light, 180% is the regular situation that we could often see in youngsters. It suits both men and women with strong and healthy hair.
It looks kinda thick but is still natural enough.
Medium-heavy (200%)
At this level, your hair looks really thick already. It might be a little bit heavy to bear.
Heavy
This is an exceptionally high density of natural hair. And it’s heavy to wear, also.
Extra-heavy
The highest level of hair density. The hair strands are located too close to each other, and the overall hair look would be extraordinarily thick. Normally, when having this hair texture, people tend to trim it to make it thinner and more comfortable.
Why does hair density matter?
It is essential to know the density well, as it not only determines the styles you could try but also decide which products would fit you the most. It might be just a hair growth product to add natural volume to hair, or a hairpiece to cover your thinning spots.
Especially, it is extraordinarily important when you choose a hair system. Only when the density of the hairpiece matches the density of your real hair could your overall hairdo look natural. If they do not match, then it would be easy for others to detect.
Further notes about hair density chart
Having more hair is not always a good thing. A more important thing is to consider your own hair condition so that you could find what is the best density for a wig. If there appears a difference between the density of your natural hair and the hair system, then the secret that you are wearing a hairpiece would be obvious. The scale that each hair vendor uses might be different. To be specific, the name and the number Hairsystem apply for each level is for our own hair system only. In other words, if you take these names to order at other vendors, or vice versa, taking the scale of other suppliers to buy our hair, then it would not totally fit.

The density scale that each hair vendor uses might be different. To be specific, the name and the number that Hairsystem apply for each level is for our own hair system only. In other words, if you take these names to order at other vendors, or vice versa, taking the scale of other suppliers to buy our hair, then it would not totally fit.
The density also affects the base design of a hair system. For example, if you want to have heavy-looking hair, then you couldn’t opt for the Swiss or HD laces. These materials can’t bear such a heavyweight. In contrast, if you want to have light hair only, then we could advise you to go for a transparent lace or other base materials to make your hair look the most ultra-realistic. Hence, kindly specify your requests carefully when ordering, and our staff will consult you with the most suitable way out.
To create the most realistic hairline some of the times, hair density in different parts of your hairpiece would vary. It’s kind of a trick, just so you know.
There is no special recommendation, but women would tend to have denser hair than men.
It’s best to determine the exact density at first. Because once the hair system has been completed, adding or removing hair would be exceptionally hard. Its naturalness would hence be affected, also.
As every step of ventilating would be 100% done by hand, there couldn’t be any exact similarity between the products, even when they have the same ordering information.
